American composer and lyricist Irving Berlin wrote the famous Christmas song, “White Christmas.” Berlin also wrote another song, “I’ve Got Plenty to Be Thankful For.” Having just celebrated Thanksgiving,

I concur with Berlin: I’ve got plenty to be thankful for. I have a beautiful family, health, a great assignment here in the North Central Region, awesome friends, and most of all a wonderful Savior. God has been good to me.

Too often if we aren’t careful, we can lose our focus and become fixated on the negatives around us. Everyday almost the media reveals another scandal. It seems as if accusation and improprieties are all around us. However, I want to share with you some good news! Yes good news! The first Christmas brought tidings of great joy.

The prophet Isaiah foretold of One who would come. Listen to Isaiah’s poignant prophecy: “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel,” (7:14). The angel of the Lord would define this tern “Immanuel” for Joseph-“God with us,” (Mt 1:23). God is with us. He took upon Himself flesh and lived among us. Tough times? Jesus knows how you fell. Rejection? He has felt that as well.

And in this Christmas season 2017, Jesus is with us; God is with us through the Person of the Holy Spirit. Tune the bad news out, and listen in to the good news. GOD IS WITH US!
